What it’s about. Kiewer Rus im späten 10. Jahrhundert: Prinz Vladimir flieht vor seinem Halbbruder Yaropolk. Der riss nach dem Tod des gemeinsamen Vaters die Macht über Novgorod an sich und tötete im Zuge dessen den dritten Bruder Oleg. Im schwedischen Exil trifft Vladimir auf den Krieger Sveneld, der ihn davon überzeugt, eine Armee zu versammeln, um die Heimat zurückzuerobern. Mit der Unterstützung zahlreicher Wikinger-Söldner zieht Vladimir in den Krieggegen seinen verräterischen Bruder, aber auch gegen die scheinbar übermächtigen byzantinischen Streitkräfte.
