What it’s about. 1956: Der junge Bobby Charlton spielt in der Saison 56/57 erstmals für die erste Mannschaft von Manchester United und gewinnt mit dem Team die Liga. Ein Riesenerfolg für die Jungs aus Old Trafford und ihren Trainer Matt Busby, der eine Mannschaft aus unerfahrenen Jungspunden zusammengestellt hat. Doch schon wenig später sind die goldenen Zeiten der “Busby Babes” vorbei: Bei der Rückreise vom Europapokal-Spiel gegen Roter Stern Belgrad kommt es am Flughafen München zu einer Katastrophe: Die Maschine mit der gesamten United-Mannschaft an Bord hat im Schneegestöber Probleme beim Start, kommt von der Startbahn ab und explodiert. Bobby Charlton überlebt, doch acht seiner Kameraden kommen ums Leben. Als die Vereinsbosse den Club vorübergehend aus dem Ligawettbewerb nehmen wollen, baut Assistenztrainer Jimmy Murphy ein neues Team auf und zieht mit ihm ins Pokalfinale ein.
