What it’s about. Fred Z.Randall ist seit seiner frühen Kindheit von der Raumfahrt begeistert. Als Erwachsener ist er seinem Traum schon ein gutes Stück näher gekommen, denn er arbeitet als Programmierer für die NASA. Das Problem ist nur: Randall ist ein totaler Chaot und lässt kein Fettnäpfchen aus. Als er während einer Vorführung seiner Arbeit einen der Astronauten für die anstehende Marsmission so schwer verletzt, dass dieser absagen muss, kann Randall jedoch sein Glück kaum fassen. Ausgerechnet er soll den Astronauten ersetzen und so schickt die NASA ihren besten Mann zum Mars.
