Michael Winterbottom ist ein englischer Filmregisseur. Er begann seine Karriere beim britischen Fernsehen, bevor er zum Spielfilm wechselte. Drei seiner Filme – „Welcome to Sarajevo“, „Wonderland“ und „24 Hour Party People“ – konkurrierten um die Goldene Palme bei den Filmfestspielen von Cannes. Er und sein Co-Regisseur Mat Whitecross gewannen den Silbernen Bären für die Beste Regie bei den 56. Internationalen Filmfestspielen Berlin für ihre Arbeit an „The Road to Guantanamo“.
