Bekannt wurde sie vor allem durch ihre Rolle als Florence Johnston, die sarkastische Haushälterin von Isabel Sanford und Sherman Hemsley, in der Sitcom „Die Jeffersons“ und dem Spin-off „Checking In“. Außerdem spielte sie die Rolle der Mary Jenkins in der Fernsehserie „227“.
