Rodada a medias entre Yugoslavia y Argentina, entre el serbio y el español, narra la historia de Jana: A una aldea yugoslava llega Maksim Brockman, originario de la zona, para encontrar esposa. Ha hecho fortuna en Argentina y muchas chicas están interesadas en casarse con tal hombre elegante, rico, y que les lleve al nuevo mundo. Él se fija en Jana, la cual parecía la menos interesada, pero su madre termina por convencerla. Después de la boda tradicional, se embarcan rumbo a Buenos Aires. Y en el carguero Jana conoce a otras chicas: resignadas, ellas ya saben lo que hará Don Máximo con ellas: emplearlas en un burdel.
