Benvenuto Cellini (2018): cast, story & where to watch
2018 · Film

Released in 2018, Benvenuto Cellini is a comedy, drama and history film, running about 180 minutes. “Hector Berlioz's opera semiseria live at the Opéra Bastille, Paris on April 12th, 2018” — that tagline sets the tone.
What it’s about. The Florentine sculptor and silversmith Benvenuto Cellini rapidly attained a degree of renown that went beyond the confines of Italy. Invariably embroiled in conspiracies, intrigues and quarrels, Cellini is commissioned by the Pope to cast a large sculpture of Perseus. He is loved by Teresa, but she is promised to Fieramosca, an academic artist who has not been favoured with a papal commission. Terry Gilliam’s exuberant production draws the protagonists into a delirious and joyful yet claustrophobic and megalomaniac world: a flaring up of contagious madness.
Who’s in it. Benvenuto Cellini stars John Osborn as Benvenuto Cellini, Pretty Yende as Teresa, Michèle Losier as Ascanio and Audun Iversen as Fieramosca, among others.
