Soldier (1998): cast, story & where to watch

Released in 1998, Soldier is an action and science fiction film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, running about 99 minutes. “Left for dead on a remote planet for obsolete machines and people, a fallen hero has one last battle to fight” — that tagline sets the tone.

What it’s about. Sergeant Todd is a veteran soldier for an elite group of the armed forces. After being defeated by a new breed of genetically engineered soldiers, he is dumped on a waste planet and left for dead. He soon interacts with a group of crash survivors who lead out a peaceful existence. The peace is broken as the new soldiers land on the planet to eliminate the colony, which Sergeant Todd must defend.

Who’s in it. Soldier stars Kurt Russell as Todd 3465, Jason Scott Lee as Caine 607, Jason Isaacs as Colonel Mekum and Connie Nielsen as Sandra, among others.

How it landed. With an audience score of 6.4/10, Soldier has drawn a solid, mixed-to-positive response. It went on to earn $14.6M at the box office.
